Three friends Jim, Sam and Tom were playing in the garden and one of them broke a pot. While enquiring about it the three friends answered as follows:
Jim: I haven’t broken the pot.
Sam: I haven’t broken the pot.
Tom: Sam has broken the pot.
If only one of them is speaking the truth, then who broke the pot?
Answer: Jim broke the post.
Explanation:
Case 1:
Let us assume Sam is the guilty one.
In this case both Jim and Tom are speaking the truth, which is not possible.
Case2:
Let us assume Tom is the guilty one.
In this case both Jim and Sam are speaking the truth, which is also not possible.
Case3:
Let us assume Jim is the guilty one.
In this case only Sam is speaking the truth.
