Golfer Sports Riddle

Jacob and John are well-known golf rivals. One Day during a match, they were level at a score of 30. John hit a bad shot and Jacob added 10 to his score. Jacob then hit an awesome shot and he won the game.
How ? 
It’s straight forward, Jacob simply won by score. The riddle tries to trick you into subconsciously merging their names together and believing Jacob was the same one that hit the bad shot.
