- Fill the 3-liter pitcher pour it into the 5-liter.
- Fill the 3-liter again and fill up the 5-liter. Because 3 liters are already inside one liter will remain in the 3-liter.
- Pour the water out of 5-liter pitcher pour the one liter from the 3-liter pitcher inside and than pour full 3-liter inside…
There are other possible solutions. Here is one of them:
- -Fill the 5-liter.
- -Pour what you can into the 3-liter (2 liters remain).
- -Pour out 3-liter p.
- -Pour remaining 2 liters out of 5-liter into the 3-liter.
- -Fill the 5-liter.
- -Pour what you can into 3-liter (there is space for 1 liter)

RE: How did they get the barley from one sack to the other without pouring the grain somewhere else?
They put wheat into buyer’s sack. Than they tied it and turned it inside out. Than barley was poured in.
They untied the pocket with wheat and poured it back to the farmer’s sack.

The king keeps poison 12 so that he can neutralize any POISON clown gives him. He pours poison 10 to clowns cup (his second strongest poison). Clown is counting on this so he has to keep poison 11 for himself to neutralize poison 10. That’s how he survives. He also knows that the king, after drinking the cup he gave him, will drink poison 12 (the reason is mentioned above). So he pours plain water into the cup for the king – he drinks water (water is not poison) and right after that he drinks the strongest poison possible (12) and dies.

It’s better to change the door.
You win in case you chose wrong door at first (odds 2-in-3).
If you don’t change the door you win only in case you originally picked the correct door (1-in-3).

If the last dwarf doesn’t come up with the answer soon it means that the two dwarfs have different hats. Second last dwarf will simply say the different color than he sees on head in front of him. Off course he gives enough time to the last dwarf to talk in case he knew.

Solution:Fraction of life as a boy = 1/4
Fraction of life as a youth = 1/8
Fraction of life as an active man = 1/2
Fraction of life as boy, youth and active man = 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/2 = (2 + 1 + 4)/8 = 7/8
Fraction of life as an old man = 1 − 7/8 = 1/8
Thus, one-eighth of Man Wrinkle’s life (as an old man) is 9 years.
So, Man Wrinkle’s Age = 72 years. It may be noted that:
Life as boy = 72/4 = 18 years.
Life as youth = 72/8 = 9 years.
Life as active man = 72/2 = 36 years.
Life as old man = 72/8 = 9 years.The problem may also be solved by setting up the following equation: a/4 + a/8 + a/2 + 9 = a
where a denotes Man Wrinkle’s age in years.
The equation may be solved as shown below.
7a/8 + 9 = a
9 = a − 7a/8 = a/8
a/8 = 9 or a = 72.Therefore, life spent as active man = 72/2 = 36 years.
