  • Since no conditions are specified for the outcome (such as squares should not have any sides in common), multiple solutions are possible.  One of the possible solutions is shown in the picture below.  (The numbers indicate the matchsticks to be moved and their positions after moving, while the arrows show the movements.)

  • 0.5

Since the up-facing side of the coin is Tail, the case that the other side also is tail is possible IF AND ONLY IF the selected coin is the faulty one. (Otherwise, the probability is 0, since the good coin can’t have both sides tails.)
Hence, the probability that this scenario happens is the same as the probability of picking the faulty coin between the faulty and good coins. Since there are only two coins in question, the probability of picking the faulty coin is 0.5.

  • Ans: beF

Explanation: The ‘words’  in the series are the three-letter abbreviations of names of months, as Nov, Jul, May and Mar.
    The corresponding numbers are 11, 7, 5, and 3.
These are prime numbers in reverse order. Thus, the next number would be 2, which corresponds to the month of February (Feb) Hence, the answer beF.

If the first one in the list were peS, instead of voN, the answer would have been naJ, because, in that case, the number sequence would be 9, 7, 5, 3 which is the odd number series in reverse, in which next number would be 1, which corresponds to Jan.

  • Step 1. The fireman and athlete goes across the hall together. They reach the other end in 2 min. (at the speed of the athlete who is slower of the two.)
Step 2: The fireman leaves the athlete at the other end and returns in 1 Min. (His max speed, as he is alone now.)
Step 3: The fireman sends the old lady and drunk guy together. They get across in 5 min. (speed of the drunk fellow)
Step 4: The athlete who is at the other end comes back and reaches the fireman in 2 min.
Step 5: The fireman and the athlete once again gets across, again in 2 min. , as they did in step 1.

Total Time taken: 2 + 1 + 5 + 2 + 2 = 12 min. The building collapses, but all the occupants have managed to get out SAFE.

The guards are standing almost facing each other, looking at opposite directions (not blocking each other’s view).
