  • The ‘clue statements’ in the puzzle are:

    1. The bottom flavour of the cone has 10 letters.
    2. The marshmallow scoop is between the pistachio and the mint-chip scoop.
    3. marshmallow is the raspberry scoop but below the mint-chip scoop. (sic)

    The question is incomplete or, rather, obscure’ with the portion of third statement “marshmallow is the raspberry scoop” missing the vital information of whether the first is  below or above the second.

    However, from the given statements, we can infer as follows:

    1. Bottom layer is the Strawberry because that is the only 10-letter word.  (clue 1)
    2. Marshmallow is “between pistachio and the mint-chip ” from clue 2, but, at the same time, clue 3 says it is below the mint-chip.
    Thus, the orientation of the three must be  Mint-chip-Marshmallow-pistachio, with or without some flavour in between.

    Now, looking at the third clue again:

    “marshmallow is **** the raspberry scoop but below the mint-chip…”

    The **** could either be “above” or “below“. But, the next part says “but below the mint-chip“. The “but below” hints that the **** should be “above” because you don’t usually say “X is below Y but below Z’.  Hence, Clue 3 becomes “marshmallow is ABOVE the raspberry scoop but below the mint-chip scoop”

    Considering this, the we have two possible arrangements as below (top to bottom):

    1. Mint-chip -> Marshmallow -> Raspberry -> pistachio -> strawberry  OR
    2. Mint-chip -> Marshmallow -> pistachio -> Raspberry -> strawberry

  • 1. If the sentence “The girl denied it and said it is appropriate” were “The girl said it was right“, the word “WRONG” could satisfy both. The guy sad it is wrong because the word is ‘WRONG’, and the girl said it is right because what the guy said was right – that the word written is ‘WRONG’.

    2. If the picture given in the puzzle is a clue, then the what was written on the paper could be 9 = IX. The guy guy was sitting on the  ‘wrong’ side saw it as “XI = 6” which is obviously wrong, whereas the girl sitting opposite saw it as  9 = IX which is correct.

  • Minimum 8 cartons

    2 cartons to be filled with  6 boxes each (12 boxes) and
    6 cartons to be filled with 9 boxes each (54 boxes)

    Total 8 cartons holding 12 + 54 = 66 boxes.

  • The culprit is the BUTLER.

    The first letters of the plates in the given sequence read ‘WHO DUNNIT‘. This gives indication that it is an encoded message to the detective.
    The  last three letters of the plates read from bottom right (last plate), from right to left, upwards gives the clue as “ADVANCE EACH LETTER BY THE NUMBER SHOWN’. Accordingly, the  first letters advanced by corresponding number in a circular fashion (i.e., A to Z and then again starting from A) forms the clue to the killer. (e.g. W 05 means W advanced by 5 places which results in ‘B’ (as X, Y, Z, A, B). Similarly,  H 13 gives 8 + 13 = 21 => U, the 21st letter, O 05 gives 15 + 5 = 20  => T, and so on, so that the first letters of all plates decoded gives ‘BUTLER DID IT’.

  • Q

    Each letter is at a corner of a square containing three numbers such that, the sum of the three numbers indicate the position of the letter in the alphabet.

    e.g. The top left square has numbers 6, 4 and 4, adding up to 14, which corresponds to the letter N which is the fourteenth letter.
    Likewise, 4 + 1 + 7 = 12 => L (Top right square)   and 10 + 6 + 5 = 21 => U  (bottom left).

    By the same logic, ? = 1 + 2 + 14 = 17 => Q

    1. The squares formed should NOT have any side  in common (i.e., same matchstick forming side of multiple squares) AND
    2. The output figure should NOT have any sticks that are NOT part of the squares
