Ask Owl and reach to WonderLand
Mr. PK was all set to go to the village of WonderLand to meet his friend. So, he packed his bags and left for the village at 5 in the morning. Upon traveling on a road for miles, he came across a point where the road diverged into two. He was confused on which road to take. He gazed around and he saw two owls sitting on a branch. He thought he could ask for directions for the village from the two owls. So he went to the tree. There he saw a sign which read,
“One owl always lies, and one is always truthful. They both fly away if you ask them more than 1 question.”
Mr. PK was caught in the dilemma of what to ask? And from which owl to ask, since he only had one question. What should Mr. PK ask?
Ask one owl what the other owl would say, if it was asked which road was correct. Then go through the other path.
—Ask one owl what the other owl would say
Positive Negative = Negative (Truth Lie = Lie)
—- Then go through the other door.
And opposite of Negation = Positive (Opposite of Lie = Truth)
Mr. PK can ask the following question: “If I were to ask the other owl which road leads to WonderLand, what would it say?”
Let’s say Mr. PK asks this question to the truthful owl. The truthful owl knows that the other owl always lies, so if Mr. PK were to ask the other owl, it would lie and give the wrong answer. Therefore, the truthful owl would truthfully say that the other owl would give the wrong answer.
On the other hand, if Mr. PK asks the same question to the lying owl, the lying owl would know that the truthful owl would give the correct answer, so it would lie and give the wrong answer. Therefore, the lying owl would also say that the other owl would give the wrong answer.
In either case, Mr. PK can determine the correct road to take by taking the opposite of the answer given by the owl. So, he can follow the road indicated by the answer of the owl to reach WonderLand.
