After the storm neither ground nor tree has ‘Apples’.  But both of them eventually can have ‘an Apple’.
This means there were 2 apples on the tree initially.  One of them fell in the storm and now there is one apple on the tree and other on the ground.
But there is no longer ‘apples’ on the tree or ground.
