If two fifty-foot ropes are suspended from a forty-foot ceiling that is twenty feet apart, how much rope will you be able to steal if you have a knife? 
“… a forty-foot ceiling that is twenty feet apart…” == Some crucial information seems missing. A ‘ceiling’ alone can’t be “twenty feet apart”. There must ne something else from which it is that much apart.
