Strategy to save from fire on island puzzle

A man is stranded on an island covered in forest.
One day, when the wind is blowing from the west, lightning strikes the west end of the island and sets fire to the forest. The fire is very violent, burning everything in its path, and without intervention the fire will burn the whole island, killing the man in the process.
There are cliffs around the island, so he cannot jump off.

How can the Alexander survive the fire? (There are no buckets or any other means to put out the fire)fire-on-island-and-strategy-to-save

Light a twig from the fire.

Use that twig to put the fire on the island some distance away from the already burning site.

now since wind is from west it will cause the  fire to spread east.

Start walking towards east through the area which completed the burning.

Now the fire will not reach you because the area behind you already completed burning.

(P.S:Now wait to die by starvation unless someone rescue you in time :)).
