Jim purchased a bottle of an imported perfume at $250. The bottle looks very beautiful with silver linings on it and a lovely silver cap on top of it. It can be said that most people purchases the perfume not only because of the fragrance but also because of the look and beauty of the bottle. The price of the bottle alone is $240 more than the perfume. Find out the price of the content of the bottle only?
Answer: $5.
Explanation:
Let the price of the bottle be x and the perfume be y.
Therefore, x+y=250
As per problem x=y+240
Putting the value of x in the first equation we get,
y+240+y=250
or, 2y=250-240
or, y=5
