To buy new Laptop Jacob took money from his two elder brothers John and Thomas. They each give 10£ to Jacob. However, Laptop cost was only 17, so Jacob gave 1£ to each elder brother and keep one for himself.
In the end, John spends £9, Thomas spends £9 which sum up to ££18.
Also, £1 is kept by Jacob.
Where is the missing £1? 
£1 that Jacob kept is actually part of the £9 that was spent by John and Thomas. The correct calculation is
John £9 + Thomas £9 = Jacob £1 + Laptop £17
